Whether it’s designing for complex ecosystems or managing long-term habitat restoration, we offer a seamless blend of practical knowledge, innovative strategies, and commitment to sustainable results. Our design team brings a wealth of experience from working on a wide variety of national and regional infrastructure projects, allowing us to develop custom designs that meet both project-specific and statutory requirements. We work in close collaboration with our clients to fully understand their goals and aspirations. By applying the latest design principles and innovative strategies, we create value-driven outcomes that maximise both project efficiency and environmental benefits.
At Mortimer Habitats, our expertise in habitat creation and enhancement spans a wide range of ecosystems, including complex projects involving mosaic habitats and those requiring intricate ground preparation and soil inversion techniques. Our hands-on, practical experience means we are deeply familiar with the challenges involved in designing and executing habitat creation schemes. We follow the best practices outlined in CIEEM’s Good Practice Guidance for Ecological Restoration and are actively contributing to further advancements in this area. Our multidisciplinary team is skilled at navigating the complexities of project sites, budgets, and schedules, providing solutions that enhance both biodiversity and project reputations.
With years of experience in supervising habitat creation, restoration, and enhancement, we support on-site contractors throughout all stages of the process, from initial ground preparation to planting and seeding. Our aim is to ensure that the project’s ecological vision is fully realised and that biodiversity targets are achieved. Our Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoWs) are highly trained and certified, equipped with 4×4 driving skills, emergency first aid, confined space awareness, asbestos training, and CSCS certification, enabling them to safely manage all aspects of the project.
At Mortimer Habitats, we understand that effective monitoring and management are critical to the long-term success of habitat creation and enhancement projects. We prioritise developing robust management strategies right from the start, drawing on our extensive experience across the sector to create simple yet highly effective solutions. By planning for the unexpected, including the risks associated with habitat restoration, we ensure that projects remain on track to meet their targets. Our Habitat Management & Monitoring Plans are designed to incorporate adaptive measures, making them flexible enough to respond to changing conditions.
This is especially important in the face of increasing climate-related challenges, such as extreme weather events. Our bespoke monitoring schedules are designed to mitigate risks and reduce future costs, ensuring that the desired habitat conditions are met and maintained for years to come.
